Sometimes I wonder why I train as much and as hard as I do.
Today as I was warming up for my session I had a bit of an epiphany on the matter.
Amidst the chaos of coaching, holding down a full time job, starting a business, setting up a gym and caring for my crazy puppy, my two hours of training is about as close as I get to “a break” at the moment.
That’s why I love it so much.
People workout for a myriad of reasons. To lose weight, get massive, get a six-pack or simply because society tells us too.
For me it’s a chance to tune out and in at the same time. To focus on nothing but the task at hand, be that lift a barbell overhead 30 times, run a mile or simply continue to breathe.
The Buddha said:
“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.”
It’s hard to focus on the now at the best of times, let alone when you’re juggling 37 different tasks on any given day.
For me that’s what training is. Presence.
